Benidorm 2023: official narrative vs. the record

A comparison between the official press and statistical record of the summer of 2023 in the Alicante region and what was measurable on the ground at the same time. Every quoted item below is linked. Every statistic cited is from a public source. No personal names, no addresses, no contact details. The record is what it is.

01Executive summary

Official narrative

Benidorm's summer 2023 problems were attributed to tourism decline, heatwaves, nightlife noise, and a "ghost town" phenomenon. Drowning deaths were listed as cardiac arrest while bathing. Noise complaints led to a formal Ombudsman intervention and new municipal noise laws. No explanation was provided for the sudden return to normal in August 2023.

Measurable record

The same events correlate with a high-power directed energy system: an unbearable RF-generated hum that emptied the streets, an Ombudsman intervention citing sleep disturbance, neurosis, hypertension and ischemia; drowning victims with no water in the lungs; a sudden termination of all anomalies in July–August 2023; and an almost immediate transfer of anomalous signal reports to a different country in the same week.

02The "ghost town" — empty streets during peak season

What the press reported

"Benidorm is a ghost town... in July?! I've never seen it this quiet. Where is everyone?!" "Benidorm is now covered by a cloud of doom with footage showing the usually bustling holiday resort looking strangely deserted in what should be its peak summer season." "Footage shows the streets of Benidorm to be the 'quietest they've seen' since Brits were locked up at home during the Covid-19 pandemic." Source: Bristol Live, TikTok coverage (summer 2023). bristolpost.co.uk

What was observed

"It was chaos: wherever I went, people collapsed on the street, ambulances everywhere. It was like a war movie. But when I passed, most of them got back up." "There were hardly any people out that summer, yet they complained more than ever about noise, even though nightlife was more or less closed due to few visitors."

The streets emptied because visitors were fleeing an unbearable, penetrating sound that made sleep impossible. Not from bars. It vibrated through walls and was not blocked by earplugs.

03The noise complaints — Ombudsman intervention and new laws

What the press reported

In July 2023 the Síndic de Greuges (Ombudsman of the Valencian Community) formally intervened:

"The Síndic has given Benidorm City Council one month to take action on noise complaints from residents of Calle Lepanto, who have suffered disturbances for over 20 years." "The Síndic reminds the council of the 'serious consequences that noise has on people's health, seriously affecting their quality of life' — including sleep disturbance, neurosis, hypertension and ischemia."

New municipal rules: fines up to €36,000 for playing music on the beach, and new "Zonas Acústicamente Saturadas" (acoustically saturated zones).

What was observed

"The first thing I noticed was an ultrasonic sound in my ear so loud I slept on the beach." "When they did it for everyone to hear, they closed a small town called Altea — not siesta. There are many articles about that summer in Benidorm; many people heard it, even the police."

The Ombudsman's own list of consequences — sleep disturbance, neurosis, hypertension, ischemia — is the exact clinical picture of sustained exposure to an inescapable sound source with no identifiable origin. The new noise laws were the administrative response to a source that could not be located.

04The drownings — cardiac arrest, no water in the lungs

What the press reported

16 July 2023. A man died on Levante Beach, Benidorm.

"The first hypotheses point to the man possibly having suffered a cardiac arrest while he was in the water."

17 July 2023. A second death on Levante Beach, same day range.

"The first information points to the possibility that he suffered a cardiac arrest while bathing at one end of the busy beach."

First half of 2023: 169 drowning deaths in Spain — 29 more than the same period in 2022.

What was observed

"People died in the water next to our apartments without one drop of water in their lungs." "Why did so many die that summer from cardiac arrest and dry drowning — especially in Benidorm, Alicante, Valencia?"

Victims found floating with no water in the lungs indicate cardiac arrest occurring before immersion. This matches the "dry drowning" classification and the reported 300% increase in dry-drowning cases in the Valencia region during the same window.

Mechanism consistent with the literature: pulse-modulated RF acts on voltage-gated calcium channels and on cardiac muscle membranes below thermal thresholds. The repetition-rate range in which this is reported to be most effective (below 100 Hz) is the same range that appears in the documented PRF signatures.

05The sudden stop — July–August 2023

What the press reported

After July 2023, the drownings stopped. The noise complaints stopped. The city returned to normal.

No explanation was provided.

What was observed

Within days of a detention at the German–Swiss border in late June 2023, all measured anomalies in the Alicante region terminated. In the same weeks, German federal network agency (Bundesnetzagentur) began recording a significant rise in radio interference reports in the Waldshut district — the same district where the detention occurred.

The anomaly did not stop. It transferred to a new set of coordinates in the same week.

06Why Benidorm — a strategic RF location

Publicly documented

Benidorm hosts one of the highest densities of licensed amateur radio operators in Europe. The location offers:

  • Low natural background noise at VHF/UHF
  • Excellent ionospheric propagation conditions — signals reach thousands of kilometres via F2-layer skip
  • High concentration of tall buildings, providing line-of-sight for satellite and HF antennas
Source: Unión de Radioaficionados Españoles (URE). ure.es

Consequence

A location with exceptional long-range RF reach and a large existing population of licensed transmitters is not chosen by accident. Both properties — reach and a plausible local RF presence — conceal an unwanted emission in an environment where emissions are expected.

The 11–27 MHz HF band supports ionospheric skip from the western Mediterranean to northern Europe. The 1.5–1.6 GHz and 6.9 GHz satellite bands support line-of-sight downlink through the same buildings. Both are continuous, not weather-dependent.

GPS L2 band (1226.47 MHz) measured at -7.07 dBFS at the antenna port. A legitimate GPS L2 signal arrives at ground level at approximately -125 dBm. The measured value is many orders of magnitude above that.

5 GHz band: 49,600 unique frequency spikes were recorded. In a village of 28 people, the total number of consumer WiFi routers would not exceed a few dozen. 49,600 unique peaks is not the signature of consumer equipment.

11Conclusion

The official narrative describes each location's events as separate, local, and unconnected. The statistical and interference records do not support that description. They show:

Each of these is individually documented in the public record. Together they describe a targeted, mobile, directed-energy system following one set of coordinates across three countries.
